Hettie Reed is a monster. But things weren't always that way.

Life on the edges of the rainy city of Monroe, Washington is good. By day, Hettie trains with the witch Baba Yaga, and when the moon rises, she joins her friend Henry and the being called Night. Together, they learn to navigate their new lives she, as a flesh-eating monster, and Henry, an elderly ex-detective, as Hand to one of the most powerful forces in our world.

But when they're called to investigate the strange murder of a farm couple, Hettie's fragile family is thrown into chaos. From the start, nothing is as it seems, and the closer they come to the killers, the further they may be from the truth. Someone is playing a dangerous game, with bloody war at stake.

Mojo Hand Blues is the second volume in the Night Blues series, the sequel to Graveyard Blues.

Mojo Hand Blues Night Blues Book 2 eBook Reina Salt Troy Dilport

...from the pace of this book! It's not for the faint of heart, but then, the original versions of nursery rhymes, fairy tales, folklore and mythology never are. Abundant swearing (an "aw shucks" doesn't fit the personalities or the situations) and, at times, abundant gore (again, it fits the situations). The author's use of description places these books in my top 10- and I have read many books (My "current" library tops 2000 easily)! The constants in this book are the love and protection of family and the never-ending fight of good against evil, life against death. I re-read the first book, "Graveyard Blues", and launched immediately into this one. I couldn't put it down. The chapters are voiced by various characters ( there is one chapter misnamed- Ovid instead of Henry- but it's easy to catch as their personalities are so distinct) and maintain constant action. At no time did I feel lost, though, thanks to the author's skill. These definitely belong on my (physical, not e-book) shelf alongside Dean Koontz and Laurell Hamilton!

Mojo Hand Blues Night Blues Book 2 eBook Reina Salt Troy Dilport Reviews

exdellent read
My first book I've read by Reina Salt. It won't be my last. The use of mythological beasts and characters from multiple cultures was well-researched and quite intriguing.
I searched this second book out, but I didn't enjoy it. Very disjointed from the first?
Building and expanding on the mythology of Graveyard Blues in every way this story takes sympathetic, flawed and interesting characters though a dark world. By turns bloody and sexy with a slowly building tension that comes to a great conclusion.
Reina Salt just gets better & better. I loved the first novel but this one surpasses it. I enjoyed it so much that I read it twice!
She mixes fantasy creatures from different cultures well, effortlessly creating a new world within the real world. And her characters are all memorable and compelling In their own ways. She even makes you sympathize with the villians while still rooting for the heroes.
I can hardly wait for the next novel in the series!
The sequel to Graveyard Blues, and this one also kept me up until late! I was *not* going to sleep until I finished it. A new batch of monsters, an explanation for some from the first novel (i.e. how they came to be), and further exploration of Night, Baba Yaga and co. I love the complexity of Night; he sounds like someone I could easily get into trouble with just due to his powers of seduction. I was once again impressed to the point of laughing out loud at the ideas that the author created from just one human brain, although I'm starting to doubt that Earth is her home planet! (Compliment). In particular, Dusk/Dawn. Just brilliant! And The Morrigan. Rictus. The inside of Bran's Cauldron. If I attempt to describe everything I love about this book, I will end up writing my own. Write more, Reina!
Hettie and Henry return to follow up after Graveyard Blues. Filled with the same imaginative use of mythology and folklore, Mojo Hand Blues doesn't disappoint. Night makes more of an appearance while new faces come, and some go not to return, to pull curiosity and questions from the reader. The ending leaves a taste for more, one is left hanging as if from the side of an ageless waterfall, waiting for the rescue of the next installment.

If Hettie and Henry pulled you into their new, bizarre lives in Graveyard Blues, you'll enjoy their further adventures into the often grotesque nature of the Courts.
